{"id":3668,"date":"2025-12-20T02:33:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-20T00:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arcticwatch.info\/?p=3668"},"modified":"2025-12-28T23:55:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-28T21:55:11","slug":"equinor-invests-400-million-to-boost-output-at-newest-arctic-oilfield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arcticwatch.info\/index.php\/2025\/12\/20\/equinor-invests-400-million-to-boost-output-at-newest-arctic-oilfield\/","title":{"rendered":"Equinor Invests $400 Million to Boost Output at Newest Arctic Oilfield"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Equinor and its partners in the huge new Arctic oilfield Johan Castberg will invest $396 million (4 billion Norwegian crowns) to construct the first tie-back of another discovery to the Castberg hub that would boost oil production from the area.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The investment decision by Equinor, V\u00e5r Energi, and Petoro was made just eight months after Johan Castberg came on stream, the Norwegian energy major&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.equinor.com\/news\/will-invest-in-johan-castberg-replenishment\">said<\/a>&nbsp;on Thursday.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Equinor announced in the summer that Johan Castberg&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/oilprice.com\/Latest-Energy-News\/World-News\/Equinors-New-Arctic-Field-Reaches-Peak-Oil-Production.html\">hit full capacity<\/a>&nbsp;of 220,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil production, noting that peak capacity has been reached just three months after the field in Norway\u2019s Arctic waters in the Barents Sea came on stream.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"718\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/arcticwatch.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/2025-12-11_oco5kybcwx.jpg\" alt=\"Source: Oilprice.com\" class=\"wp-image-3669\" srcset=\"https:\/\/arcticwatch.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/2025-12-11_oco5kybcwx.jpg 718w, https:\/\/arcticwatch.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/2025-12-11_oco5kybcwx-300x125.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 718px) 100vw, 718px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: Oilprice.com<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>As Norway\u2019s newest oilfield, Johan Castberg will produce crude for 30 years, boost Norway\u2019s oil exports, and bolster the role of Western Europe\u2019s biggest oil and gas producer as a reliable and long-term supplier of energy, Equinor says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Equinor and its minority partners in the Johan Castberg field will now begin work to develop the Isflak discovery from 2021, which will be the first one tied back to the Johan Castberg production platforms.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recoverable oil in the new subsea development is estimated at 46 million barrels, and start-up is planned for the fourth quarter of 2028, Equinor said today.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJohan Castberg has been developed as a future hub in the area.
