On the policy side, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.international.gc.ca\/gac-amc\/publications\/transparency-transparence\/arctic-arctique\/arctic-policy-politique-arctique.aspx?lang=eng&amp;utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">December 2024 Arctic Foreign Policy<\/a>&nbsp;declared that \u201cCanada must urgently strengthen our presence in the Arctic and northern regions.\u201d This highlights surveillance, maritime domain awareness, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2025\/03\/12\/canada-military-choppers-arctic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">logistical readiness<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the industry side, Canada has leveraged Inuit firms for critical infrastructure. A majority-Inuit company secured a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-services-procurement\/corporate\/stories\/inuit-communities-in-arctic.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contract<\/a>&nbsp;in 2022 to maintain the North Warning System radar chain across the Arctic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This move combines sovereignty, defense readiness, and community economic benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More recently, Canada and the US have advanced plans to modernize the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2024\/08\/13\/canada-cf35a-norad-facility-quebec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">North American Aerospace Defense Command<\/a>&nbsp;early warning system, investing billions in long-range radar, satellite monitoring, and over-the-horizon sensing to detect emerging threats in the Arctic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ottawa has also announced&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.forces.gc.ca\/en\/defence-capabilities-blueprint\/project-dcia.asp?id=144\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">funding<\/a>&nbsp;for new ice-capable patrol vessels and expanded operations at CFS Alert and the Nanisivik Naval Facility, meant to reinforce both surveillance and logistical capacity in one of the world\u2019s most strategically contested regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Source &#8211;
