2012’s “June plunge” is almost upon us, and if 2024’s current trajectory continues extent will cross above 2012 for the first time since February in a week or so.

Melt ponds are now visible in the Laptev Sea:

The Amundsen Gulf is almost entirely free from sea ice, and hence ice area in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago is near an all time low for the date in the AMSR2 era:

Sea ice area in Hudson Bay is lowest for the date by a considerable margin:

However, there is above average sea ice area on the Atlantic periphery:
